A seguito di quanto a suo tempo stabilito dal nostro benemerito consocio Giovanni Binaghi, che ha dedicato tutta la vita allo studio dell’entomologia, adoperandosi attivamente per diffonderlo tra i giovani, e da sua moglie, signora Paola Binaghi, mi è pervenuto dalla famiglia Binaghi, fiduciariamente, ma nella mia qualità di Presidente della Società Entomologica Italiana, la somma di 500 €, affinché venga donata all’autore di un lavoro originale inedito, che non sia già stato premiato in analoghi concorsi, su insetti della fauna italiana.
I testatari hanno espresso la volontà che la consegna avvenga al seguito del giudizio di una Commissione, costituita da me e da altre due persone competenti da me scelte, che sono Roberto Poggi e Alberto Zilli.
Gli Autori dovranno essere dilettanti e giovani (di età inferiore agli anni 35). Ad essi sarà richiesta, se necessario, prova di aver effettivamente svolto il lavoro presentato.
La consegna verrà fatta in memoria di Giovanni Binaghi. Chi desidera presentare un lavoro, dovrà farlo pervenire, a mezzo raccomandata o in altro modo che dia affidamento, entro il 31 ottobre 2012 al prof. Augusto Vigna Taglianti, Dipartimento di Biologia e Biotecnologie “C. Darwin”, Università “La Sapienza”, Piazzale Aldo Moro 5, 00185 Roma, specificando esattamente l’età e la professione del richiedente.

The Italian Entomological Society publishes original scientific contributions on Arthropoda, specifically on terrestrial and fresh water fauna, presented by the members of the Society, upon a favourable judgement by the Editorial Committee and by the Referees. Articles by non-members of the Society may be accepted if considered of particular interest.

Articles accepted will be published free of charge, with the exception of colour plates. The authors will receive a copy in .pdf format. Requests for printed copies will be at the author’s expense.

General rules

Text: should be clear and concise. The article should follow the format: author/s, title, abstract in Italian, abstract in English, key words, text, acknowledgements, bibliography, address/es of author/s, legends to figures, plates.

Languages accepted: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish.

Indications: use the symbols $, # and £ only to indicate the symbols of male, female and worker respectively. Do not write entire words in capital letters, use cursive for the taxa at a genus and species level, avoid footnotes as far as possible. Number the plates progressively. Number the figures progressively without using letters.

Authors who wish to publish in a language other than own should have the grammar and syntax checked by an expert, preferably a zoologist, who should be mentioned in the acknowledgements.
Manuscripts which do not conform to the above rules will be returned to the author/s for adjustment before being reviewed.
After the article has been accepted, the author/s should send the final version via e-mail or on CD-Rom plus any original plates not in computer format. The cost of eventual modifications to the text or figures will be billed to the author/s.

Guidelines

Title: should be concise and explicitly state the argument of the paper. It should include the family dealt with and the highest taxon without punctuation. The author and year of the description of names of taxa cited in the title are not normally indicated.

Abstracts: a third abstract, in the language of the text, may be included when the text is not written in Italian or English.

Nomenclature: should follow the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (latest edition) and the opinions published by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. The names of taxa should be followed by the unabbreviated name of the author and the year of the description when the name is used for the first time in the text.

Descriptions of new species: the following scheme should be followed: diagnosis, typical locality of the taxon, complete data on the material of the typical series (paying particular attention to recommendations 16C and 72F of the ICZN regarding the storage and preservation of types of new species), description, comparisons, any other data.

Chapter titles: aligned with the left margin.

Section titles: aligned with the left margin, followed by a full stop and the text on the same line.

Graphics, designs, photographs: should be cited as figures, in both the text and the legends (e.g.: fig. 3; figs 3-6). The depiction of animals or parts thereof should be to scale with reference to the actual size. The specimen depicted or its provenance should be indicated.

Legends to the plates of figures: should follow the schemes below:

Bibliographical references in the text: should be cited, according to the situation, as in the following examples:
Binaghi (1951); (Binaghi, 1951); (Binaghi, 1951a, 1951b; Capra, 1958); (Binaghi, 1951: 18); (Binaghi & Capra, 1951); (Binaghi et al., 1951).

Bibliography: should only contain the details of the publications cited in the text and the titles should be given in full.
Titles of publications originally written in languages with non-Latin alphabets: should be transliterated or, better, translated into English with an indication (in parenthesis) of the original language from which they were translated.

Italian Faunistic Records (Bollettino della S. E. I., only)

Only contributions containing significant new information of real interest for the understanding of the distribution of single taxa are accepted. They should be sent to Prof. Loris Galli by e-mail: loris.galli@dipteris.unige.it
These should summarise the information in the following order: Species (Family Order); – Nomenclatural reference: the publication on which the interpretation of the taxon is based; – Context: the reason for the indication; – Findings: locality, date, collector, determiner, collection in which the specimens are housed, any information on the habitat; – Observations: general distribution of the taxon based on the indications of the chorological category to which the specimen belongs, known distribution in Italy with abbreviated bibliographical references, other complementary observations; author and address.
